Workshop Description
This is an intensive training that focuses on teaching the
AutPlay® Therapy
framework, integrative family play therapy for working with neurodivergent children (autistic, ADHD, sensory differences, learning differences, developmental disabilities) and their families. AutPlay Therapy emphasizes a neurodiversity affirming and informed approach and harnesses the therapeutic powers of play to help address mental health issues for neurodivergent children and their families. This training presents an overview of autistic and neurodivergent children and how to build relationship, assess for needs, and establish therapy goals.
Additional components such as theoretical underpinnings, understanding dysregulation, improving regulation ability, research, and case examples are covered. Several play therapy interventions are explained and demonstrated through session video clips. Experiential activities are presented, and case conceptualization and planning are discussed.
Presenter
Dr. Robert Jason Grant, Ed.D is the creator of AutPlay® Therapy . He is a therapist, supervisor, and consultant and utilizes several years of advanced training and his own lived neurodivergent experience to provide affirming services to children and their families.He is an international trainer and keynote presenter and multi-published author of several articlesand books. He is currently serving as past chair on the board of directors for the Association for Play Therapy. .

Continuing Education: This program is co-sponsored by the California Association for Play Therapy and The Institute for Continuing Education. The program on August 25-26,2023, offers a total of 12.00 contact hours (6.00 hrs. per day). Full attendance is required for the days you attend. There is no additional fee to submit application for CE credit. CE application forms and other materials will be available on site. Who Should Attend: Psychologists, Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Workers, School Counselors, and Students.
Instructional Level: Intermediate - requires a working knowledge of the fundamental principles of play therapy
Instructional Methodology: May include lecture, demonstration, audio/visual, experiential practice of techniques, case examples, large and small group discussion
Play Therapy Areas: Seminal Theories or Historically Significant Theories (4 hours), Skills and Methods (2 hours), Cultural and Social Diversity (6 hours)
Learning Objectives
- Explain neurodiversity and implementing a neurodiversity affirming approach.
- Describe the components of AutPlay Therapy including conducting an AutPlay Therapy session, theoretical underpinnings, phases of therapy, assessment and screening instruments, and goal planning.
- Describe common mental health goals addressed in AutPlay Therapy.
- Identify several structured play therapy interventions to use for addressing goals.
- Identify at least 2 strategies to involve parents and other family members as co-change agents.
- Describe the AutPlay model of dysregulation.
- Identify play therapy interventions to address dysregulation issues.
- Implement the AutPlay Follow Me Approach, designed for children with higher needs.
- Describe how to work with parents in implementing AutPlay Follow Me play times at home.
- Explain research and evidence-based practices in AutPlay Therapy.
- Outline the theoretical underpinnings of AutPlay, including seminal play therapy theories and other integrated methods.
- Identify at least 6 AutPlay interventions to increase experiential knowledge.

Cancellations & Refunds: Requests for refunds must be made in writing by e-mail to president@calplaytherapy.org. Requests must be made at least two weeks prior to the training to receive a refund. There is a $25.00 administrative fee for refunds. There are no refunds for cancellations after the deadline, however, registration may be transferred to another individual. There are no price breaks for partial attendance.
