The Sacramento Chapter of the California Association for Play Therapy Invites you to join us at our online presentation:
“Using Play Therapy to Address Topics in Adoption” Presented by Edythe “Edye” Swidler, LMFT
Saturday, September 12, 2020 10am-12:15 pm
Workshop Description:
In this training, we will focus on how play therapy can be a useful tool in helping children and teens explore several of the core issues that impact adopted youth and their families. Parents often report that their adopted children do not receive the help they need because therapists often do not understand issues that are unique to their families. This workshop will help to equip therapists will information, assessment tools, and interventions to help address adoption issues in play therapy.
Workshop Objectives: After the session, participants will be able to:
● Discuss the developmental stages of adoption for most adoptees and identify play therapy interventions and activities that can support children at each stage.
● Discuss the role of trauma on the attachment process and ways to incorporate parents in the play therapy session.
● Identify 3 play therapy assessment and/or interventions that can be used to help children and teens address adoption-related issues, specifically disenfranchised grief, ambiguous loss, and identity.
