Workshop Description:

This workshop will explore the assessment process using play therapy techniques. Participants will explore both directed and non-directed assessment techniques to playfully gather information about their clients’ strengths and challenges. This workshop will provide opportunities for hands on learning combined with connection to the underlying theoretical concepts.

About the Presenter:

Teri Roltgen is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist who has specialized in working with using play therapy with children and families. She has worked as a child therapist in an acute care setting, schools, and private practice. She is currently Director of Educational Mental Health Associates, an agency providing school based mental health. Teri continues seeing children and their families and using play therapy in her private practice.

Learning Outcomes – As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to: 

    1. Utilize at least two play therapy skills to engage clients in the assessment process.
    2. identify and explain a practical model for ethical decision-making in play therapy,
    3. List at least three areas of social emotional development that can be assessed using play therapy techniques
    4. Describe three play therapy based assessment techniques that can help develop effective treatment plans.

 

There is no charge to attend this event. Due to COVID-19 health concerns, this one-time online event has been approved by APT for 2 CONTACT CE hours. The California Association for Play Therapy (CALAPT) is approved by APT to offer continuing education specific to play therapy (provider # 00-094). CALAPT maintains responsibility for the program.
