A FREE 2.0 CE Workshop; *Limited to 40 Participants

Workshop Description:

This workshop will address how a traditional cultural game, Loteria, can be used in play therapy with the Mexican-American/Latinx population as well as clients of all cultural backgrounds. This workshop will not only discuss the relevance/significance of the game within the Mexican community but will also demonstrate various interventions to be used during play therapy with individuals and their families. This workshop will cover the helpfulness of including this game in the play therapy office as well as how this game and its interventions can be used with low to no cost items.

 

Workshop Objectives: After the session, participants will be able to…

  • Describe the overall importance of traditional cultural games and the significance of the game Loteria in the Mexican-American community.
  • Identify and implement at least two play therapy interventions adapted for the game Lotería that can be used in different phases of treatment.
  • Identify the benefits of including Lotería in play therapy sessions with their clients.
  • Discuss the advantages and limitations of using Lotería with clients from various backgrounds and with different developmental needs

Presenters
Cristal Alvarado is an AMFT currently working with at-risk youth and Hayward families at the Hayward Police Department serving as a Family Counselor with YFSB. She has 8 years of experience working with preschoolers with 2.5 of those years as a psychotherapist in the First Five Program in Santa
Clara County.

Karen Pernet is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years experience working with children, families and individuals, supervising and training. She is passionate about using play therapy and sandtray therapy as healing modalities with people of all ages as well as for providing supervision, consultation and training. Karen is certified as a Play Therapy Supervisor, a Filial Therapist (Parent-Child Relationship Enhancement Therapy) , a Gestalt therapist and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. She is the founder of Growth through Play Therapy trainers and a provider for the Association of Play Therapy. She is on the faculty of Sierra Institute for Contemporary Gestalt Therapy.
