Child Parent Relationship Therapy: Using Play Therapy with Parents

Course Description

Building upon a working knowledge of play therapy and child centered play therapy skills, this workshop is an introduction to Landreth & Bratton’s filial therapy model, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy. The workshop outlines the basic components of Child Parent Relationship Therapy including facilitation skills, how to structure and offer a CPRT group, and how to actively engage parents as partners in the therapeutic process by teaching them basic child centered play therapy skills.  Child Parent Relationship Therapy is well researched and has been successfully implemented with a wide range of cultures and ethnically diverse populations.

Learning Outcomes

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the 10-session model of Child Parent Relational Therapy
  • List 3 of the therapeutic goals of CPRT for both for children and parents in play therapy practice
  • Identify the skills and strategies necessary to train and supervise parents in play therapy practice
  • Demonstrate 4 of the play therapy skills taught to parents
